Work from home no here (points at head). Work from home here (points at heart) …
I’ve been dealing with insomnia again. I think it is mostly due to my high blood pressure and anxiety over current events. It has gotten a bit better though. I got some Ambien CR (the slow release sleep medication) from my PCP in order to help me sleep through the night. On the pills I sleep for about five hours, but I wake up very groggy. Over the counter sleep aids and the regular Ambien drag me down into the loving embrace of sleep, but they release me a mere two or three hours later. I’ve been taking my high blood pressure medicine before bed in order to prevent me from waking up like the Tell-Tale Heart was coming out of my chest. I may have to try some more relaxation techniques in order to get a good night’s sleep. I finished filling out a survey for the Sleep Wellness Center and I’ll be going by for a checkup later on today. If they feel it necessary, I may end up doing the overnight sleep study in order to see if I have sleep apnea. I don’t know much about sleep apnea, but one of the warning signs is snoring (which I can do like a Champ) and it can kill you in your sleep. No big deal, right? Wrong! Death is hard to come back from. Even more so than a blown Achilles, or so I’ve heard. Last night I decided to blow off a little steam by going to Marikka’s to see what would have been my volleyball team. I got there a bit early and ordered a meal and a few drinks. I became Heckle Guy by the time my team played and they loved it. There was only a little crying and that was from a guy named Andrew that admitted to being arrogant, but hasn’t quite come to terms with himself as slow. He wasn’t quite a one-hit wonder, but his arsenal of three jokes ran old quickly. As the token Black guy (I think I counted that astute observation several dozen times), I feel it is my duty to inform you to bring the heat when you step to me as a “Mel Brooks-type of humorist.” While he tried hard to come at me with Eastern State (mental) hospital jokes and the occasional cotton-picking humor, he was ill-prepared for the variety, depth and intensity of my comebacks. Its not like I was being malicious, I was letting myself be taken over by the Force and it spoke through me very loudly and quite often. If you have to use the walk from the patio to the bar and back to come up with a wisecrack, stay at the kiddie table ‘cause you can’t run with the big dog. So after having quite the enjoyable evening, some of us decided to play keep away from ‘Drew which was only partially successful. It started off bad when Mary, Junior and Kelly bolted for the indoors and left me to fend off Andrew by myself. I was preparing myself for a slow but expedient getaway when I noticed Mary had left her purse behind. I can only presume this was part of her diabolical, passive-aggressive plot to get me back for kicking her in the head last year. She did redeem herself by coming back for the purse and helping clear the way for my escape. Andrew had moved onto the volleyball court after a FL fan to once again tell her, “Gator; it’s what’s for dinner.” By this late hour, I was beginning to feel some issue with the ankle so I closed my tab and headed out. I got to bed late, but slept soundly for five hours through the night. I told you that story, so I could tell you this one.
I have been having some trouble focusing enough to do my work from home. I had so many entertainment options at my fingertips that it was hard to choose what to do next. It got so bad that I let my buddy Tom borrow my Xbox 360. He was able to enjoy his Grand Theft Auto IV and I eliminated the distraction of a game system, DVD player and HD-DVD player all at once. It was also very difficult to get into a position to do the workflow diagrams that I am supposed to be working on. I have to spend some quality time getting those done for the sake of my boss as well as myself. Jeff is taking some heat to get these diagrams done and I suspect letting me work from home. I am hoping that the work I get done this weekend will help to make up for my time spent with a Racer X mind. I’ll let you know how that all works out. As a star closing, here’s a look at the exciting work that I’ve been doing.
