Weekend Update

Trying new things is not always bad ...
So Friday night was pretty uneventful. I did some cleaning around the house and eventually went to my parents’ to watch the Lakers game. It turned ugly early, but we watched through the beginning of the 4th quarter. Around 11:20pm, my Dad turned it over to local news/sports and then started watching Leno. By that time, I was falling asleep from exhaustion and how hot my Dad keeps it in the bedroom. I made it back to my house and watched a little TV before calling it a night and going to bed.

I had promised Mom that I would help her clean some junk out of her garage if it was nice over the holiday weekend, so we got started around 10:30am. We worked on and off for a couple or three hours. I had to take some breaks to spare the Achilles further pain and injury, but we could see some serious progress in just the one session. We wrapped up and cleaned up before I took my spoils back to my house. I acquired some treasure from the unused items in the garage which freed up even more space for my Mom. Now, of course, I’ll have to spend some quality time turning my garage into a fitness facility/dojo, but that’s a story for another time. After leaving the garage, I did some chores around the house and a three-exercise set. During my soft-core workout, I got a text from Mary. When I called her back, she apologized for asking but wanted me to help her move some small items into her new place. I reluctantly agreed and let her come by the house to kidnap, I mean pick me up. We headed over to her old place to pick up the few essentials she had decided to take with her. It really wasn’t the few items that she wanted moved as much as the cliff we had to descend to load them into the truck. I gave her grief and we moved on. We headed across town and moved her things into the new place. After watching all her hard work (she wouldn’t let me touch the TV), she took me out for a late lunch at Red Robin in Nicholasville. It was a nice meal, especially the tower of onion rings that I let her order as an appetizer. There were a couple of funny things that happened. Mary ordered some special blueberry limeade. She liked it but it was more of a fruit salad with some juice thrown on top. There was so much fruit and ice in the cup that she finished the first drink in a few sips and had to order a fruitless refill. I ordered the new Jamaican Jerk chicken sandwich. I asked for extra sauce on the side, because I love a good jerk sauce. Turns out Red Robin uses a dry seasoning mix, so they brought some of that out. Not what I expected, but not bad. After lunch, I offered to accompany Mary to BW3s to watch the UFC pay-per-view. All of her fight friends were busy with the holiday weekend, so I felt bad that she didn’t have anyone to go with. I’m not a fan of UFC, but I’ve sat through WWE PPVs so it couldn’t be any worse. It was standing room only at 9:45 with the fights scheduled to start at 10. We bellied up to a railing that divided the bar from the restaurant and held it down in case gravity gave out. Mary was able to snake a stool from the bar and then later I was able to grab one from a table that left early. Several of the fights were decent, but the 1st match with Ortiz versus Machida, was very boring. Ortiz tried to run the guy down and was aggressive throughout, but the little guy kept running away from him. Ortiz took a shot in the 3rd round that knocked the wind out of him and put him on his ass. Machida pounced and rained down blows on Ortiz for several seconds. Ortiz finally turned the tables with a triangle, but Machida was able to break the hold right before the end of the match. Machida won by unanimous decision, but he lost on my card.

There were some other fights on the undercard, but most of them weren’t that exciting. There were a couple of KOs and a few decisions between them. I asked Mary about the possibility of a submission just before one of the black card fights started. It ended in an arm bar. I was happy to see something a little out of the ordinary. We finally got to the fight before the main event. Silva versus Jardine looked to be a pretty good fight. There was a lot less standing and dancing around. Silva ended up with the upper hand and beat the piss out of Jardine.

The final match was between BJ Penn and Sean Sherk. I call him Shrek, ‘cause if he was green he’d look like an ogre. Sherk was suspended from UFC for taking steroids. I couldn’t really tell how Mary felt about that, but there was mention of taking him out back and beating him with a kendo stick until he was unconscious. Oh well, this was his first fight back since not losing the title. BJ Penn apparently doesn’t like cheaters either. He came out and struck Sherk repeatedly in the first two rounds. BJ was just too quick for Sherk and his short muscular arms. At the end of the 2nd round, the announcers were talking about Sherk having a plan and still being in the fight. If Sherk’s plan was to bleed all over the mat and Penn, he was doing a fine job. Otherwise, his plan got fed down the crapper. The 3rd round was more of the same. They traded punches with BJ coming out on top for the most part. Then with less than 15 seconds to go in the rounf BJ caught Sherk with a jab that stunned him a little. BJ followed up with another quick strike and that pushed Sherk back to the cage. Penn then went full force into a running knee lift which was one of the most brutally awesome moves I have ever seen. Sherk bounced off the cage and went down. BJ jumped on him and began to pummel Sherk before the ref stopped the fight.

And so ended my first night at the fights, but the night was still young so Mary and I went to Marikka’s and hung out with some volleyball peeps there. Things were going well until Alicia ran into a crazy bitch that made the mistake of hitting on her fiancé. Stories differ here, but Alicia told the chick excuse me (or back off) before coming inside. All hell broke loose at that point. Mandi came in behind her cursing and ready to fight. Alicia just walked away and let the bouncers take care of the situation. Eventually Mandi was tossed from the premises, but her friends remained behind to plead her case. It looked like there would be further confrontation, but Alicia and her fiancé made it to there car without incident. All in all, it was a very interesting night.

Mandi is on the right in the army outfit. Don't know her crazy friends.

Sunday was also a busy day. I got up and did some more cleaning with Mom in her garage. Then I caught up with Tom to see the 1st show of the day of Indiana Jones. It was good. Really good, just not as good as Iron Man. After the movie, I headed to my cousin Mike’s house for a little bit to catch up with his family. His kids put on a little show for me on their backyard trampoline. It was really neat to see them doing such a wide variety of moves at such a young age. I then moved on to Sarah’s house for a little cookout action. When I got there, the ladies were busy in the kitchen with salads and eggs and stuff. I took a look around Sarah’s house until she enlisted me to work the grill. After the food prep was done we played a little cornhole and sat around drinking for a little while. I had to move on to my parents’ house for another cookout, so I excused myself. I picked up a steak and some kielbasa for myself and the parents had hamburgers ready to go on the grill. It was fun and exciting to cook with gas twice in the same day, but I would like to get a charcoal grill soon. A few hours later, I packed up and went back to the theater to see the last showing of Indy for the day. It was good the second time around, but I was too tired to enjoy it as much as I would have.

On Memorial Day, I actually rested a little. I did a little cleaning around the house. Mary invited me over to meet her roommates and eat a little Bar B Q. It was nice. They all moved into a new house and were trying to get the grill positioned and their new outdoor furniture set up. We all ate outside and then I headed to Circuit City to pick up Stuntman: Ignition for the Xbox 360. After that I went down to Marikka’s to watch some volleyball. That was the end of a long and tiresome weekend. I hope you had a good holiday as well.

Her name is Maddy, Not Mandi. Short for Madelynn. I figure if you're posting peoples pictures up on the internet, you should at least get their names right.

Thanks for correcting me, but I don't like the bitch well enough to fix the error.
