Bow Down to the Kings

If you want to crown them, then crown their ass! They are who we thought they were ...

The Giants didn’t come out of nowhere and the Patriots didn’t overlook them in hopes of a perfect season. Both teams knew going into the game that history was on the line and one way or another it would be made. Both teams went into the Super Bowl with the belief that they would be the victors. The Patriots were business as usual leading up to the game (as little time in the press as possible, Brady on the injury report with a hurt shoulder, etc) whereas the Giants became confident media hounds based on their perfect road record in the regular and post seasons. The Patriots had nothing to gain and everything to lose. If they won, they were supposed to win. If they lost, they were failures and their perfect regular season was all for naught. The Giants had everything to win and nothing to lose. If they lost, they were supposed to lose. If they won, they had taken a team that was fractured a year ago(thanks to Tiki) and a dog for a quarterback to a World Title. I’m not Eli’s biggest fan, but I have to admit that he showed some promise in the clutch when it counts. Starting in the last game of the regular season against the Patriots, he kept the Giants in the game but could not get them over the top. In the three games leading up to the Super Bowl, he committed no turnovers. And even in the biggest game of his young career, he made few mistakes and had an excellent fourth quarter thanks in no small part to some great receptions from Tyree and Burress. Now the Manning Brothers (who could become a gang soon) are back to back Super Bowl winners and MVPs. Peyton went in with a much more potent offense even though Harrison should be about ready to retire due to injuries. Eli utilized a great defense even though it is widely thought that Strahan may retire now that he has a ring. Next year will be very exciting to see who among the crowned can make it back to the big dance. The Colts, Giants, Patriots, Packers and Cowboys are among the teams suspected to lead the charge to the Super Bowl. Will there be as much magic next year as this? Probably not. How do you follow up the Patriots 18 - 1 and the reemergence of a great like Brett Favre? I don't know, but I'm very interested to find out.
