Health Watch '08

Is it worth it? Let me work it. Put my thang down, flip it and reverse it ...

I have to say that I am pretty pleased with the new health program. I made my next milestone and even pushed myself to increase the time on my evening bike ride. I did the 10 miles in 30 minutes last Friday, so then starting Saturday I was on the clock to hit 100 miles this week. I hit that this morning and still have tonight's workout left. I may have to adjust my goals a little since I have increased the time of my evening workouts. I skipped one morning session and did one 35 minute and one 45 minute evening session. I doubt I'll go to 45 minutes a night, but its good to know the option is there. I also started a program with my cousins to do some full body exercises that keep the heart rate up throughout the workout. I am hoping that we will be able to keep at this at least once a week. I also lifted with Phil last night doing the bench, incline bench and military press.

I have also being doing much better with my eating habits. Instead of eating at the cafeteria everyday for lunch, I made some hamburgers and taco meat last weekend. I also picked up some lunch meat and vegetables at the store. Since I have some options on meat every night, I just have to decide what vegetables to add to the mix. I've had collard greens, butter beans, corn and baked beans this week along with some unsweetened apple sauce. My achilles' heel has been drinking too many empty calories. I don't usually get caught by sodas, but I have a taste for orange juice (I know, I know. OJ will kill you.). Anyhoo, I have cut back to one glass in the morning with breakfast and then diet soda and mostly water the rest of the day at work. When I get home, I have some flavor tubs that you can add to water to make a pitcher of light drink. Peach and raspberry are my favorites right now. I've continued using low-calorie wheat bread (70 calories and 3g of fiber for 2 slices) and 2% cheese as my source of calcium. I also take a multi-vitamin everyday. So that's it in a nut shell. I weigh in on Mondays, so hopefully I'll have some good news after the weekend.

* I would like to add that I had a "bad" day on Thursday. There was a chili cook off in the office. I made a batch and also participated in tasting several of the various batches of chili. The bad part is that I ended up having a cupcake and a small piece of chocolate cake with cherries on top. All was good, but that was the major stimulus for the 45 min workout last night.
