Weather Alert
Thursday was about horrible throughout the state of Kentucky regarding the weather. At 10 am, my boss got a call that the Georgetown schools were letting out at 10:30. He had about 30 minutes to make arrangements for someone to pickup his daughter. Things got worse from there. As the weather continued to decline, Toyota met and decided they had to call off 2nd shift. Many of the routes were still running, because other Toyota plants were still running. That meant that there was lots of freight coming in and nowhere to put it. So we have to insert trailers to hold all the extra freight and still have empty trailers to dispatch for new freight. Thursday night I helped to insert over 100 trailers and ended up not leaving work until 11:30 pm. My boss offered to let the company put me up in a hotel in Georgetown for the night since the roads were still pretty hazardous. I wasn’t sure if I would accept his offer until I got to my car and there was an inch of ice locking me out. Luckily the driver's door was not frozen shut and I was able to get in and start the car. I had to run the front and rear defrosts for about 30 minutes before I could do anything with a scraper. I was finally able to clear the front and back windows and the driver side of the car, but the passenger side still had a thick layer of ice on it. I stopped at Wal-mart to pick up supplies before heading to the hotel. I checked in around 12:30AM and checked out around 8AM. Things were still pretty hectic when I got into work on Friday. I was hoping things would work themselves out by early afternoon, but I was very wrong. Some of the drivers were grabbing whatever empty trailers they could find without following the schedule that we had set. We had no way of tracking what trailer had what parts on it, so it was chaos. Around 3pm we brought the drivers and dispatches up to get things straightened out, but it still took until after 10pm to get things in some kind of orderly fashion. I left the parking lot around 10:30 pm and headed home to crash. I was planning on going to Louisville on Saturday to see Liz and Brian, but I was pretty worn out. I relaxed most of the weekend and caught up on some TV and DVD watching.
