The Devil went down to Georgia, 'cause this one time in band camp ...
Its always best to start at the beginning, but what's the fun in that. Thursday night was a pretty peaceful evening. I hung out at the house, watched a little TV and played a few games on the 360. Nothing real exciting, but it was nice to kick back and relax.
Wednesday morning I called in sick with a severe case of the blahs. I wasn't sure if it was contagious and since my people are not so fond of doctors, I just stayed home from work and called it a day. I laid around all day and caught up on some reading among other things. My Dad stopped by because he was having some difficulty with a laptop. I didn't really fix it, but I was there for him until he did. I also tried to get UK/UNC tickets online, but apparently it was sold out.
Tuesday was the usual day at work. Nothing too exciting to speak of. I signed up for my benefits for 2008 which includes Vision, something I truly need. Other than that, not much going on. Oh yeah, there was this one thing with Fantasy Football.
Alright, I got hit with a brick in the ToysRUs league. I was facing Dave for the second time this year, but without the help of one Thomas Edison Brady. Uncle Tom (as I'm sure no one calls him) was taking a much deserved week off to ponder how many single-season records he would like to smash this year. Thankfully, I have an experienced backup in Matt Hasselbeck. He handled himself fairly well with 278 and a pair of touchdowns. Unfortunately, the rest of my team pretty much sucked it up. No Brady means no Welker, so I had to plug the hole in the dike with Jason Witten. For most of the season, Witten has been a solid receiver even for a TE, but not on Sunday when he went for a big 12 yards. My kicker and defense also took the week off, combining for 3 points. Not good when you're going up against a kicker from Cincy that did nothing but practice field goals the entire game totaling 21 points. Dave brought the hammer thanks to his defense putting up 14 and Romo going for close to 30. The game really wasn't in doubt when Matt took the field Monday night. Dave ended up as the high scorer of the week by closing in on 95 points. I am still the 2nd highest scorer in the league, but with a 4-6 record that only puts me at 6th place in the league. I go up against Phil this week who has the same record and is only 6 total points behind me.
Speaking of Matt Hasselbeck, my opponent in the Marikka's league had him this week. So even though the game was close going into the Monday night game, it was quickly out of reach. I seem to do a good job of covering the spread (if there was such a thing), but I generally come out on the losing end of the deal. I'm pretty sure that I'm a whopping 2 and 8. The league is still in the stone ages of pen and paper, so there's no online element to keep track of stats and rosters. That can make it more than a little challenging when it comes time to replace a shitty/injured player or even to figure out your best lineup. Doug has assured me that after the beating he took at my hands a few weeks back (thanks to an inconsistent Adrian Peterson), he is planning on moving to the web next year.
I think that just about covers things for this week. Monday saw the return to work after a long weekend and Sunday was the ride back to Lex and a short workout at Phil's on Sunday night. I'm looking forward to another long weekend in Evansville, IN. This weekend will shift from Guitar Hero, which I'm not really good at to Halo 3, which I'm pretty good at. Enjoy yourselves and for Christ's sake try to stay out of trouble. 'Cause I'm probably not going to bail you out of jail just so you can puke in my limo.
