Weekend

Couple
Kristin, Holly and Will (don't you just love those shorts).

This weekend started right after work on Friday. Phil and I were heading to Atlanta at 6:00 am, so I knew I didn’t have much time for sleep. Instead I packed a bag, caught up on the blog and watched a little TV. Phil called around 6 to say he would not be at the house until 6:30 or so. I rented a car for the weekend (since I still have no airbags), so we just loaded up and headed out. I directed Phil to the interstate with the hopes of getting some sleep shortly thereafter. Phil did not share my vision. Phil and I have been on a few road trips together including the infamous return trip from West V, so at times we can sit back and recall old times to no ends. We started drudging up old stories as well as making a few current wise cracks. After at least an hour or so, I was able to sneak in a nap. From what I can tell, Phil enjoyed the Chrysler Sebring I rented. His only regret was that even though he was pushing 3 figures on the speedometer, he never got the car airborne. I slept on and off until we got into GA. We stopped for gas about a half hour outside Atlanta and then pulled into Kristin’s sometime around noon.

Atlantans
The Atlantans that were available this weekend.

Will arrived shortly before we did and we got in touch with Neighbor Dave for him to come over and watch the game. There was a little drinking involved during the game and things escalated after the Wildcats lost to South Carolina. Will decided to take a nap, so the rest of us took off to the shopping mall. Phil was looking to replace his camera because the flash no longer worked. We looked around for a while, but came up empty. We got back to the house and started up a game of Spades. Kristin had planned on cooking out for all of us when Will got up (she can be sweet like that sometimes). Dave and Kristin (the Atlantans) took a lead in the game and when Will arose declared the game all but over. Phil and I weren’t in that same vein of thought, however. Two Blind Nils got us back into the game and the lead. It didn’t hurt us that we set them also. The game went back and forth for a few more hands before the Atlantans used a pair of Nil hands to pull ahead by twenty or so to end the game. Then Kristin decided to produce a bounty of a dinner. We had hamburgers and hot dogs with chips, baked beans and shells and cheese. Dinner was delicious. Of course, Dave tried to ruin it by recreating a scene from Blazing Saddles. After dinner and some more drinking, we took out Trivial Pursuit 90’s Edition. There were some questions that were fairly easy and then there were the questions I got. Most of them were out there. I did figure out that Crystal Light was released in Mexico as Clight. Will and Dave seemed to be staying ahead of the game especially in terms of pie pieces. Eventually, we decided next piece wins, so Will took home the victory. It was closing in on midnight and I was less than sober, so I called it a night.

Drunken
Drunk people on a couch, Saturday night.

Usually Sunday’s in the ATL are laid-back, lazy days, but not this Sunday. I figured with a house full of drunken idiots, Kristin wouldn’t set the alarm. Guess I as wrong. In the interest of full disclosure, I was attempting to pick up empty beer bottles off the back porch when I alerted the neighborhood to my presence. The alarm is pretty shrill, so it didn’t take Kristin long to get up and turn it off. Figuring I had done enough damage for the day, I sat down and watch some TV as everyone groggily walked around the house. Phil was hoping to go to the Aquarium and someone mentioned Six Flags. Both of those activities would have been pretty expensive on a pay per consumer basis. So while I was in the other room checking the internet, someone came up with an idea to go to the park. A little while later, I asked Kristin what she would like to do today. What resulted can not be printed on a family friendly blog like mine, but maybe I can get Phil to detail what happened from his vantage point in the living room (there’s another funny story that happened later that day I’m pushing Philip to write about also). After gathering picnic materials and some sports equipment, we headed for a small stretch of land in the park. We tossed the pigskin, Frisbee and some sort of boomerang type device. It’s a plastic triangle that has some characteristics of a boomerang. Most of us gave up on it pretty quickly, but Phil would not let it go. After our picnic lunch, Phil would only play with the boomerang. He got better towards the end, but it still did not seem that an exciting toy. An hour or so later, we called it a day and headed home. We watched the Selection Show and then hung out for a few more hours, before heading back to Big Lex. I enjoyed the Sebring all the way home, but I’m pretty sure I only got her up to ninety.

Goodbye
Phil and I say goodbye.

Disappointing stat of the week: Zero

The number of times I made it to the gym this past week. There is no way to get my $7.50 back, so I’ve vowed not to let that happen again. There was some nice fresh air and exercise on Sunday, so I took it indoors on Monday. I spent about an hour at the gym, which was cool. I guess if I put it on the blog, I’ll have to make it to the gym regularly.
