Oh what a Sunday!

WBReunion

abcde For those of you that have been living in a cave, Sunday was a big day. It was a the West Bend Reunion in Winchester, KY. It's special because it doesn't happen every year. In fact, this was the first one in several years. People come from all over, but mostly from Powell County, where I grew up. About half the people there are related to me in some way. The rest are people from the old neighborhood. Either way there are a lot of people there that I probably should know, but don't. The food was pretty good, though. There was chicken, hot dogs, macaroni, green beans and corn. Then there was the dessert table. There were a few varieties of chocolate cake including my Aunt's marble square cake and another with a chocolate sauce on top that was still warm. Very nice indeed. There was also music and dancing, which was fun. I mostly hung out and played Spades, though. Then I remembered there was something else going on that day.

abcde The fight for the Governor's Cup. The annual UK/UL football game was Sunday also. I missed the first quarter while traveling from Winchester to Lexington. I walked in the door as UL scored their first TD in the 2nd quarter to go up 14-7. Unfortunately, the Cards were not done there. They went on to convert two UK turnovers into TD's putting the Cats down 28-7 at the half. On most days, that would put the game out of reach and I'm sure a lot of fans thought the game was over. The Cats came to life in the second half igniting the seventy thousand plus on hand in Commonwealth Stadium. The Cats outscored the Cards 17-3 in the second half to end the game with a respectable 31-24 loss. The Cats' QB, Andre' Woodson, showed some sparks of goodness even though he did get sacked 7 times and fumbled 3 times, losing all 3. He showed a little touch and also some power in his throws. It looks like he will actually have a few targets if the O-line can keep him vertical. Arliss Beach had some nice runs as well. The D looked bad in the 2nd quarter, but did well the other 3 quarters. This may not have been a W, but it at least gave UK fans some hope.
