New Orleans, LA

abdef Hurricane Katrina hit landfall in Louisiana early this morning. On the way to school, I heard people talking about their experiences in the state and especially New Orleans. I only have one story, so I thought I would share it.
abcde A few years back, I drove from Atlanta to New Orleans with my cousin Will for the SEC tournament. When we arrived, we bought tickets for the Finals (of course the CATS were going to play on Sunday) and we watched the semifinal game from a bar close to the Superdome. We were in Catlanta of the South. It was wall to wall Big Blue fans. During timeouts and commercials, there were chants going up for the CATS. After the win, we headed to the hotel to get some rest and get ready for a wild night. We headed down to Bourbon St. for the first time and it was definitely unforgettable. We walked around for a little while to get our bearings and then we found a watering hole. I believe we actually walked into the first bar we stopped at, but soon realized we could get faster service at the walkup windows outside the bars. You can carry your drinks down the street, so as not to miss the excitement of the other revelers. We had a long and intoxicating night. The next morning we checked out of the hotel still slightly inebriated. The CATS dominated in the Finals to win another SEC tournament title and we celebrated with other fans for a while after the win. We left the stadium to return to Atlanta and then go our separate ways back to the good ole Commonwealth of Kentucky.
abcde But the story doesn’t quite end there. I had been in Atlanta on business and had a rental car paid for by the company, so I drove the rental car back to Lexington with all kinds of happy thoughts in mind after the big win. I went to Budget to return the car the next day and they wanted to charge me mileage for a one-way rental. The bill was going to be four times the amount I intended to pay, so needless to say I was upset. The company was paying for the car for a week, so I ended up driving it back to Atlanta on Friday and paying the extra day out of my own pocket. I returned the car after having added about 2200 miles to the odometer. Kristin was kind enough to pick me up from the airport and my parents headed down to get me over the weekend after stopping to shop for carpet (that they still have not purchased after all this time). And now you know the rest of the story.
