Morris Controversy
There has been a lot of talk about Randolph Morris in the Bluegrass for quite some time now. The most recent talks have centered around his failed attempt at going to the NBA and whether or not he will be returning to UK. All signs point to Morris being a Wildcat next year. Some people have said that Tubby is creating some sort of double standard for Randolph, but I recall Tubby taking Crawford back in January so I'm not sure about the double standard. There have been others that say Tubby is setting a bad example for future players. I would have to agree on this, because it sends the wrong message. I don't know the details of communication between Tubby and Morris, but from the public's viewpoint there was a major breakdown. I don't like the idea that Morris skulked off like a thief in the night and now Tubby is taking him back, but for all I know Morris could have made his intentions to enter the draft perfectly clear. Morris might be able to showcase his talent on the national level by returning to UK, but would he be better off if he went overseas or to a development league? It's quite possible he would. He would probably be playing a stronger schedule week in and week out and he would be getting paid. He is also unable to be drafted, so he can't improve his draft stock. UK is going to have an abundance of centers next year with Jared Carter, Alleyne and Obrzut. The last two are considered rough around the edges, so it is possible Morris would still be the number 1 option. It is still unclear how this drama will play out, but I think it has already taken up a considerable amount of time trying to figure out what Morris was thinking by entering the draft, what he was going to do after not getting drafted and what Tubby's and the NCAA's reaction to his desire to return to UK would be. Hopefully this doesn't end up causing the team problems and leading to another Team Turmoil season.

I've stated on my blog that Morris shouldn't go back just because he can get paid now but can't improve his draft stock. However, I don't see what the big deal about bringing him back is. He didn't kill anyone. Heck, he said when he got to UK that he expected to play one year of college ball. I certainly don't think his behavior was any more disrespectful than Gerald Fitch getting busted for a fake ID right after Smith said he wouldn't tolerate more distractions. Even with a couple of more suspensions that year, Smith brought Fitch back.
