Arch-nemesis (Part 1 of 2)

Most people go through life without finding the person that they are destined to butt heads with. I was lucky enough to find that person at a fairly early age. Let me explain with a couple of quick stories.

nemesis1
Brent Broadus – Have you seen this moron?

Tom Durbin had a party at his place for the Toys R Us crowd. His Mom had worked with some of us and was pretty cool about the whole thing. She and the rest of the family were hanging out upstairs during the party. Our ambassador, Phil Deskins, headed upstairs to say “Hi” to Debbie and the family before stair diving. There was a card/drinking game set up in the living room, video games in the family room and drinking going on throughout the house, which had spilled over into the backyard. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. And then along came Brent Broadus. Kristie Shepherd was at the party and having fun along with everyone else. Brent decided it would be funny to pour a beer on her in the middle of the house. He soaked her shirt and ticked her off. She didn’t have to go home though, because Tom was able to provide her with another shirt. About a half hour later, things had calmed way down and everyone believed the incident had passed. Brent felt that it would be a good time to start his little wet t-shirt contest again. So he goes to pour another beer on Kristie. This time she blocks his arm, so he only gets a little beer on her. She gets in his face asking what his problem is. That’s when Brent jumped over the line. He slapped Kristie across the chest. Now there are some things that I can tolerate. This was not one of them. I remember jumping up and getting in between Brent and Kristie. Then I slapped him hard across his face and I asked him how he liked it. He slapped me either across the chest or face and I exploded. I remember telling myself to pound him into oblivion and my arms not listening. Seconds later, Amy Harris of the Peace Brigade, was standing between us. The red began to drain from my vision as I turned to see Ben Alvarez was holding my arms and I was standing right in front of a big screen projection TV. I cooled off enough to realize I need to get some fresh air quickly. I planned to stay away from Brent for the rest of the night, but Peace Brigader Amy had other ideas. She dragged the two of us together and wanted us to make peace. We may have shook hands out of respect for Amy, but it was superficial. Now I told you that story to set up tomorrow’s story.

I found some photos from that particular night. Good stuff.

A rare appearance from Rod Givens as our host, Tom Durbin, stocks the fridge.

nemesis4
Jon looks a little bit younger.

nemesis5
Amber hasn't changed much (not sure if she's legal in this photo, though).

nemesis3
Walter Head III, Matt Owens and Jen Miller playing some sort of drinking game.

nemesis2
Future law enforcer Joey Z. (sorry after all these years, I still can't spell or pronounce that name) and roommate Lon preparing to siphon gas or funnel a beer.

Oh My God. These photos are hilarious! This was my first re-introduction party to the TRU Crew. Who knew ten years later... Thank god I've lost the scunchy on the wrist, the pager in the pocket and the interest in Taygo since that fateful night. Growth is good.
