A Long, Strange Week
I was on Spring Break for the last two weeks. Except for a very nice weekend trip to Atlanta, I spent most of that time working. I guess I just wasn’t ready to head back to school for the final 12 weeks. So I didn’t. The first 3 days of this week were spent avoiding academic pursuits. On Monday, I made a call to Lexmark to set up a meeting. On Tuesday, I went to that 2 and a half hour meeting. On Wednesday, I drove down to campus and picked up some materials for class. That was the extent of my interaction with UK until today. I didn’t necessarily feel sick, even though I have been a little low on energy of late.
On Tuesday evening, I got a call from Walt saying he was on the way to Lexington to play trivia with his wife Carolina and his old roommate Devon. I went out and had a few drinks with them and a few of their friends at Malibu Pub. The trivia was interesting and I may have picked up a few questions for the upcoming rounds. It was good to see Walt and catch him up on the goings on of the group. We also laughed at on of the Brent Broadus incidents that happened to us a while back (& that I was planning to write about in the near future).
After I left campus on Wednesday, I went to Tom’s. He was working on realigning his TV, so I tried to help with that as best I could. Then we played some videogames for a little while. I left Tom’s and headed down to Pazzo’s. There were a handful of other students from the MBA Program there when I arrived. We had two small tables, but were expecting more people to show up. We were not allowed to grab any other tables, but we did score a few more chairs. There ended up being about 13 of us around those 2 tables, so things were a little tight. Thankfully, most of us were there to drink, so you didn’t need a whole lot of room for that. After a couple of hours and lots of laughs, things started to break up, so I headed to Marikka’s. Jon and Amber were there playing some trivia machine. That was kind of interesting, because Amber likes to push buttons. She was sometimes quick to answer questions, even if she had no idea what the answer was. And God forbid, Jon or I (mostly me) would yell out an answer that was obviously wrong. But Amber liked to share the reward if there was a top ten score. AMBREON was one of her favorite amalgams of our three names, but we’re still questioning BRAMBRET. It seems she completely left out her boyfriend that was sitting next to her with his hand on her knee. And of course with her happy fingers, she clicked OK before fully realizing what she had done. We laughed about that for a while and then I decided to head home.
As you can see, it’s been a fun and exciting week even without the world of academia. Speaking of which, I better get back to class.
